Sufi Service Committee (Boston) – Issue 186
Addressing the most pressing needs of our commUNITY
“The hallmark of spiritual progress is the expression of love for others and our willingness to help and assist other human beings.” – Dr. Alireza Nurbakhsh, Founder of Sufi Service Committee
until food, clothes, and love are accessible to all humans

– “How seismic are food and clothes?”
– “I absolutely didn’t eat for a day. I got the answer.
I stayed outside for one day in the winter, I got the answer.”

Monthly Meal Service in Cambridge: The Volunteers stand tall in their vigilance and perseverance in our pivotal monthly meal service at a homeless shelter dedicated to medically, and psychologically soothed detoxification.
Monthly Meal Service in Somerville:

On the third Sunday of the month, Sufi Service volunteers deliver family made freshly-baked foods, extending our friendship and learning about the latest chapter of their lives

Neighborhood Pantries: Volunteers have dished out homemade meals and non-perishable food to neighborhood pantries in Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston. “This is refreshing to see the group serving the community’s food insecurity needs. A great model to learn from.” – Dave

Breathing a New Life into Our Friendship: Of hospitality, more is more! Volunteers have fired on all cylinders knocking on the doors of familiar, and new cheerful faces converging as one-of-a-kind friends. The vegetarian/vegan brunch at Noor on Saturdays, zipping the aroma of well-balanced coffee and fresh pastry at Tatte, the trip to Rockport in August, the Friendsgiving in November, and the holiday party in December rippled up the scale of bonding and friendship as a pillar of altruism. The true secret of happiness, in every sense of the word, lies in making genuine endeavors to connect. Staying alone on weekends and holidays is the apple for Adam & Eve! We focus on creating long-term relationships with our friends in need and bringing together volunteers from all walks of life. We believe that long-term, trusting relationships are paramount to a person’s well-being and that these bonds serve as the foundation for creating lasting, positive outcomes in their lives.
“You certainly deserve it for all the work you do uniting the community and supporting those in the most need!”
-Abigail
“Celebrating your wonderful leadership and role in so many lives” -Laura

The Signature Newsletter: At the time of mis / disinformation, the monthly issue of Brunch Update brings the naked truth to your inbox! “The kind tone of the newsletter is a balm to my soul.” “Happiness and hospitality come straight from your soul.”, “Very impressive!”, “A beautiful testimony of service. May His gift of loving kindness continue to multiply.”

Clothes Program: Sufi Service volunteers have distributed more than two million articles of clothing. Bostonians have visited our Sufi Boutique, where volunteers sort and distribute clean, quality clothing and household items daily.

Persian Rug Donations: Noor Oriental Rugs has cleaned and donated hundreds of handmade, quality rugs to Morgan Goodwill, Boomerang, Salvation Army, Habilitat, Habitat for Humanity Healthy Tomorrow, Somerville Homeless Coalition, and mothers who need the luxury of the warm and comfortable floor during New England’s freezing winters by bringing art under their feet and warmth to their hearts.
One Earth: Volunteers envision our relationship with the environment. Using fewer resources, giving our gently used clothes a second chance, and rescuing unsold food are the trajectories to equilibrium and sustainability.

On the Horizon: Volunteers plan to celebrate perseverance (vigor and steadfastness when facing a failure), fulfill the mission (addressing the most pressing needs in our community), replenish hope (ensuring the unprotected), and strengthen our future: tomorrow will be brighter and healthier when our entire community has access to clean water, food, and clothes.
