Dear Mr. Nooraee,

I am writing to express my deep appreciation for the Sufi Service Committee’s outstanding and continuing contributions to our community. Your organization’s tireless efforts throughout 2024 have made a profound impact, and it is an honor to acknowledge the positive change you bring to countless lives.

The Sufi Service Committee’s dedication to building lasting, trusting relationships with those in need aligns perfectly with our city’s values of compassion and support. As Dr. Alireza Nurbakhsh, your founder, eloquently said, “Some people can be infinitely and constantly in the state of love, and in this state, they feel they have no choice but to dedicate their lives to other people.” This sentiment is evident in your work.

Your monthly meal service at shelters and pantries across Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston offers more than just nourishment; it brings hope and comfort. Adding local musicians to these events enriches the experience, serving both body and soul. The commitment of your volunteers, particularly at shelters focusing on detoxification, demonstrates exceptional dedication. The Sufi Service Committee’s ability to unite volunteers from diverse backgrounds is a testament to your mission. Community events like brunches, trips, and holiday parties foster a spirit of unity and altruism throughout our city.

The donation center, with its daily sorting and distribution of clean clothing and household items, is a crucial resource for our community. Distributing over two million articles of clothing underscores the scale and efficiency of your impact. The Oriental rug donation program adds warmth and comfort to those in need, setting your organization apart.

As we look to the future, I am confident that the Sufi Service Committee will continue to drive positive change in Cambridge. Your ongoing efforts align with our city’s goals for a brighter, healthier tomorrow. On behalf of the City of Cambridge, I extend our deepest gratitude for your accomplishments over the past year and throughout your history. As you approach your upcoming anniversary, please know you have our full support and appreciation. We look forward to continuing our partnership and witnessing the great work you will undoubtedly achieve.

Sincerely,

Mayor E. Denise Simmons
